DEI Fellows Program 

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Fellows program is designed to provide UNC’s faculty and staff with opportunities to develop competency & praxis in equity and inclusion. Fellows will design and develop a project for the fellowship year, culminating in a campus-wide training or initiative. Our community is committed to institutional change, and we hope this fellows program provides additional concrete ways of engaging in deep, meaningful equity and inclusion work.  

Requirements & Eligibility 

Areas of Development 

We are specifically focused on five (5) areas of development in which our DEI Fellows can create, design & implement a project to serve the campus community:

• Community Engagement

   Fellows will strengthen partnerships between UNC and the broader community using critical principles in community engagement. 

• Heritage Observances & Signature Programming

  Fellows will support the observance of monthly and yearly heritage celebrations and acknowledgements through passive and active programming that centers the cultural recognition of historically marginalized groups.

• Institutional Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Projects

  Fellows will support institution-wide strategic projects to foster an environment of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging throughout UNC. 

• Pathway Programs for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

  Fellows will support the intersection of higher education and diversity pathway and pipeline development activities. 

• Recruitment & Retention

   Fellows will support key initiatives focused on underrepresented faculty and staff recruitment and retention.
